Theory of Reading

Reading is one of the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) is Important to be learned and mastered by every individual. Bowman (1999: 265) states that reading is an appropriate means to promote a Lifelong Learning (life-long learning). By teaching the children how to read means giving children a future These which provides a technique to explore how "the world" Wherever he chose, and Provide the opportunity to get a goal in life. Specifically, Nunan (1999:17) states stat reading is a process of decoding written symbols, working from smaller units (individual letters) to larges ones (words, clauses and sentences). 

Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols for the intention of constructing or deriving meaning (reading comprehension). It is a means of language acquisition, of communication, and of sharing information and ideas. Like all language, it is a complex interaction between the text and the reader which is shaped by the reader�s prior knowledge, experiences, attitude, and language community which is culturally and socially situated. The reading process requires continuous practices, development, and refinement. (Richard & Schmidt 2002:455

Reading is an interaction between reader and text (Grabe, 1997:124). Grabe states that reading requires efficient knowledge of world and a given topic also an efficient knowledge of the language. As it is stated, reading requires a rich background, and also some ability to comprehend the texts.
